Beyond the Steps: A 60-Second Reset Before Every Dance Class

At Movewise, we believe how you arrive to class matters just as much as what you learn. Before every training session, try this simple 60-second reset to prepare your mind, body, and nervous system for learning.

1. Set Your Intention:

Take one deep breath and complete this sentence out loud:

“Today, I choose to…”

Examples:
“…stay curious.”
“…be present.”
“…embrace mistakes.”
“…trust my body.”
“…dance with confidence.”

Giving your brain a clear intention helps shift your attention toward the experience you want to create instead of worrying about getting everything perfect.

2. Breathe Before You Dance

Take one slow inhale through your nose, then exhale even more slowly through your mouth.

This simple breath helps calm the nervous system, release unnecessary tension, and prepare your body to learn new movement with greater ease.

3. Prime Your Nervous System

Spend about 30 seconds drawing circles with each finger, one finger at a time, using all ten fingers. Then reverse the direction and repeat.

This simple neurodrill improves finger independence, coordination, and communication between the brain and body while preparing your nervous system to learn new movement more efficiently.

At Movewise, dance is more than learning choreography. It’s an opportunity to build awareness, confidence, musicality, and a deeper connection to yourself, your partner, and the culture behind the movement.
